Italy
L'Italia Bella e Romantica
Italy is undeniably one of the most romantic countries in the world, reason enough to choose it as your honeymoon locale. A visit to this special destination can encompass a wide range of unique experiences - delicious cuisine, striking scenery and vistas, historical sites, world-class museums, and unique accommodations. Unless you have the luxury of many weeks, you will likely focus your honeymoon on complementary regions, to synchronize with the sultry pace of Italian life and language.
Like much of Europe, Italy is a landscape of contrasts, with venerable urban centers of learning and culture and industry, and idyllic countryside villages set into lush fields, rolling hills, mountain valleys, or even sea cliffs.
A great honeymoon journey embraces these contrasts, taking advantage of the vibrant, continuous life of cities founded by the forebears of Rome, the rustic charm of the fertile backcountry, and the class and taste of the modern jetset. Whether picnicking with wine in a Tuscan field, enjoying a moonlight ride on the lagoon of Venice, sipping Sambucco on a piazza in Rome, or catching some sun on a hike through the Cinque Terre or a seaside terrace on the Amalfi Coast, you will be surrounded by the history, modernity, and romance so prized by the Italians.
Just the Facts
Best suited for:
Honeymoon couples who enjoy romance, history, and exploring a multitude of places. Lovers of amazing food and wine. Those seeking to relax in a country where relaxation is taken to an art form! People who love being outdoors and being active.
When to go:
April through September are the best months from a weather perspective. High tourist season runs June through September, however in places like Florence and Venice, things are more quiet as many people head to the coast or countryside. August is the single busiest month - if you want to be on the coast at that time book 6+ months in advance.
Accommodations:
There is no limit to the diversity in accommodations here - grand hotels in the big cities, intimate farm-based hideaways in the countryside, 15th century palazzos turned into luxury boutique hotels, romantic cliff-side retreats with incredible views, true beach resorts on the islands and chic design hotels in major metropolitan areas.
Dining:
The word that comes to mind is "fresh" - everything is as if you just picked it from the garden. Depending on the region you may be treated to fantastic bread and wines (Tuscany), cheeses (Parma), desserts such as Tiramisu (Venice) or seafood (the coasts). Homemade pastas and special meat dishes throughout the country. All served with care and attention to detail - no feat is too small when it comes to Italian cookery. Note that dining out can be a more formal affair - we recommend that men pack a jacket and time for dining flexibility.
Special Activities:
Touring the many amazing historical sights, Venice (nothing like it in the world), horseback riding in the countryside, hiking in the Dolomite mountains, driving around Lake Como, boating in Sardinia, shopping in Florence, relaxing cliffside in Portofino or Positano, wine touring in Tuscany or Veneto (or many other places). Cooking classes around the country. Eating - everywhere!

Why Italy
Reasons to choose Italy:
Relaxation in a historical, romantic environment. Great shopping and high Italian style. Lovely hotels in remote corners of the countryside and elite city centers. The food and wine.
Reasons to choose someplace else over Italy:
If you prefer beach destinations, Italy has fewer than most. Luxury hotels here can cost more than in other places. If you prefer to stay in one place and not change venue, other countries may be more appropriate. If you don't like Italian food.
